EMI Teaching Practice on Computer Networking Course

Abstract


Promoting EMI (English as Medium of Instruction) is one of the key methods to increase the internationalization of China’s high education. Computer Networking has been taught bilingually for over 10 years in Department of Electronic Engineering, Shanghai Maritime University, and EMI has been practiced in the last 2 years. This paper presents several teaching methods adopted in this course, including flexible teaching speed, interactive teaching tool, classroom demonstration, and MOOC assisted teaching. The comparison of students’ scores in 2016-2018 and the statistical result of online student survey show that, by using appropriate methods, EMI could be very effective to cultivate students’ professional abilities and enhance Chinese students' international competitiveness.
